ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a freelance, on-call position. We’ll bring you in on specific client projects when technical issues arise that are beyond the scope of standard marketing work. Our clients are primarily on WordPress and Webflow, but we work across platforms. The problems we need solved range from routine cleanup to serious backend issues that have been building up for years.

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

Database & Server Cleanup

• WordPress database optimization — removing bloat, failed action scheduler entries, orphaned data, and accumulated junk
• Identifying and removing large, unnecessary files from web roots (backups, SQL dumps, etc.)
• Stopping unused PHP versions and freeing server resources
• Setting up proper system cron to replace WP-Cron where needed
• Fixing wp-config.php permissions and general server-level security hardening
• Configuring and fixing Varnish cache headers, Nginx gzip compression, and Cloudflare settings

Plugin & Theme Cleanup

• Auditing and removing redundant, conflicting, or outdated plugins
• Resolving plugin conflicts and compatibility issues
• Child theme cleanup and best practices enforcement
• Fixing page builder errors (Elementor, Divi, etc.)

Schema & Structured Data

• Diagnosing and fixing broken Product, Review, and LocalBusiness schema
• Yoast and RankMath configuration and troubleshooting
• Google Rich Results validation and error resolution

WooCommerce & E-Commerce

• Fixing missing or broken product data
• Recovering and syncing historical order data into analytics
• Resolving WooCommerce Analytics discrepancies
• Price data fixes and product schema output

General Technical SEO

• Fixing issues surfaced in Semrush, Screaming Frog, or Google Search Console
• 301 redirect setup and URL migration management
• Canonical tag and hreflang troubleshooting
• HTTP to HTTPS migration and mixed content cleanup
• Core Web Vitals and page speed optimization

Site Hygiene

• Media library cleanup — duplicate images, orphaned files
• User role auditing and cleanup
• Backup system setup and verification
• Cleaning up staging environments and test data

YOU’RE A FIT IF YOU…

• Have 3+ years of hands-on WordPress development experience, including server-level work
• Are comfortable working in cPanel, SSH, FTP/SFTP, and wp-config — not just WordPress admin
• Have real experience inheriting messy, mature sites and getting them into clean working order
• Understand structured data, schema markup, and how to validate it with Google’s tools
• Know your way around WooCommerce beyond just the surface settings
• Can work across platforms — WordPress is primary but Webflow and others come up
• Communicate clearly, work independently, and flag issues proactively
• Are based in the U.S. or work U.S. business hours

NICE TO HAVE

• Experience with Cloudflare, Varnish, or Nginx configuration
• Familiarity with Webflow CMS and collections
• Google Analytics 4 and Tag Manager experience
• Shopify or other e-commerce platform experience
• Basic knowledge of PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
